Both Nutmeg and Mace come from the same plant. Nutmeg is the 'nut', while mace is the surrounding lacy 'aril'.The high medicinal attributes of nutmeg are due to its high constituent of volatile oils. Nutmeg seed is effective for treating tuberculosis, fever, cough, colds, paralysis, skin diseases (eczema, acne, eczema), gastrointestinal diseases (vomiting and diarrhea).
Nutmeg has a warm, spicy aroma and flavor and can be used in sweet and savory cooking. It is a component of the classic béchamel sauce and is used to flavor a host of cakes, puddings and custards.
