Coriander seeds or Dhania is the dry fruit of a flowering plant that belongs to the parsley family. Coriander plant was also one of the various plants cultivated in the Hanging Gardens of Babylon. Coriander seeds are brown in color and have a hollow cavity. When crushed,the seeds have a lemony citrus flavor. It is a nutty, warm, spicy, and orange-flavored.
Having antiseptic properties. Coriander seeds are quite effective in curing different skin ailments like rashes, itchy skin , curing mouth ulcers and sores as well. The seeds contain linoleic acid that has pain relieving properties .As per some ancient practices the regular usage of coriander seeds help in controlling blood sugar level. Coriander seeds helps bringing down our cholesterol levels , that is due to compound called coriandrin presents in coriander seeds.Ayurveda also acknowledged that the seeds have effect on the way the body digests food and
absorbs fat. To get the maximum flavor out of coriander seeds ,the best way is to dry-roasted until it starts popping in the pan and get a little brown color .Whole coriander is considered as a base for many spice mixes, pickles and curry pastes.It is one of the most commonly used ground spices in Indian cuisine.
