Asafoetida is a latex gum extracted by scraping the sap from the exposed root tap root of various species of a perennial herb known as ferule, part of the celery family Apiaceae. The sap is dried and crushed, giving us a tan-colored spice. It is also known as hing , kayam, food of the gods, devil's dung,hing.
Having a pungent smell , when added during cooking, it mellows out into a gentle and smooth flavor. It has a prominent place in traditional medicine; because of its properties like , anti-bacterial, anti confirmatory. Asafoetida is also referred to as the Food of the Gods because of its therapeutic and curative powers.
  • It's a staple ingredient in Indian cooking, commonly used along with turmeric in lentil dishes like dal, and a variety of vegetable dishes. This diluted Asafoetida spice to be used in about the proportion of a pinch, on daily basis in gravies or dal.
  • Another option to get best result is to dissolve dash of hing in water and drink daily.
